Laudatio Felix-Rexhausen-Preis 2007

Ted Anspach: Homosexualität - genetisch bedingt? arte: 13. Februar 2007 "Ist Homosexualität vererbt oder erworben?" Diese Frage scheint längst überholt, sie lässt sich nicht beantworten und hilft Homosexuellen in der Gestaltung ihres Lebens auch gar nicht weiter. Dass uns diese Fragestellung trotzdem beschäftigen muss, macht Ted Anspachs sehr differenzierte Fernseh-Dokumentation "Homosexualität - genetisch bedingt?" auf eindringliche Weise deutlich. Am 13. Februar 2007 wurde sie auf "arte" gesendet. Der Journalist portraitiert ein Lesbenpaar mit einer lesbischen Tochter, berichtet von schwulen Pinguinen, und verliert dabei aber niemals die politische Brisanz des Themas aus dem Blick. Und darum geht es ihm. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wurde die medizinische Forschung immer wieder dazu missbraucht, um Homosexuelle auszugrenzen oder gar zu töten, wie etwa im Dritten Reich. Dass ein solches Denken auch heute noch nicht aus der Welt ist, zeigt Ted Anspach mit kenntnisreichem Blick auf die USA. Während dort eifrig nach "dem Homosexualitätsgen" geforscht wird, propagiert die von Fundamental-Christen und Evangelikalen unterstützte "Ex-Gay"-Bewegung Heilungs-Therapien für Homosexuelle. Anspach gelang es, eine solche Therapiesitzung zu filmen - und der Zuschauer wird zu einem Beobachter einer offenkundig menschenunwürdigen Situation. Man ist erstaunt, dass Therapeut und Therapierter sich offensichtlich freiwillig filmen lassen - so als ob nichts Besonderes dabei wäre, die Homosexualität einfach wegzureden. Man stelle sich das einmal umgekehrt vor! Die Jury empfindet diesen Film als einen wichtigen Debattenbeitrag zum Thema. "Homosexualität - genetisch bedingt?" ist eine ebenso informative wie spannend aufbereitete Dokumentation, die sich jeden reißerischen Ton verbietet und auf sachliche und verantwortungsvolle Weise Stellung bezieht für eine unvoreingenommene Anerkennung lesbischer und schwuler Lebensweisen. Der Jury ist es daher leicht gefallen, Ted Anspach für seinen Beitrag "Homosexualität - genetisch bedingt" mit dem Felix-Rexhausen-Preis 2007 auszuzeichnen. "Is homosexuality genetically inheritable or an acquired condition?" This question appears to be totally antiquated. There simply is no answer to it, and not in the least does it assist homosexuals further in shaping their lives in a constructive manner. Ted Anspach's finely contrasted television documentary titled "Homosexuality - genetically determined?" strikingly illustrates the fact that we are compelled to occupy ourselves with this problematic topic. The production was first aired by the joint-venture Franco-German "arte" television network on February 13, 2007. Anspach, the journalist, portrays a lesbian couple with a lesbian daughter and reports about the phenomenon of gay penguins without, at the same time, ever losing sight of the topic's political volatility. And exactly that aspect is paramount to him. Since the 19th century, medical research has been misused repeatedly to segregate homosexuals or even to annihilate them - as was the case in the Third Reich. Employing a knowledgeable focus on the USA, Ted Anspach reveals that such a frame of mind is still to be found in our world today. At the same time researchers are fervently probing to discover "the homosexual gene" in the United States, the "ex-gay" movement supported by so-called "fundamental Christians" and evangelicals is propagating therapies claimed to "heal" homosexuals. Anspach succeeded in filming such a "therapy" session - and the television viewer is transformed into an observer of a blatantly demeaning situation. One is amazed that the "therapist" and the "patient" so openly allow themselves to be filmed - as if there were nothing particular about talking homosexuality out of existence. Just imagine doing the same thing in reverse! The jury perceives this film to be a significant contribution to the discussion of this particular topic. "Homosexuality - genetically determined?" is just as much an informative as well as a fascinatingly produced documentary which shuns any hint of sensational tonality and instead takes a stand in a factual and responsible manner for an unprejudiced acknowledgment of gay and lesbian lifestyles. For this reason, it was not difficult for the jury to bestow the 2007 Felix Rexhausen Award to Ted Anspach for his contribution, "Homosexuality - genetically determined?". We extend our sincerest congratulations to Ted Anspach!
